Ingredients and Why We Use Them

Posted by S+F on May 26, 2017.

The ingredients that go into our products are really important to us here at Scaramouche + Fandango. We’ve decided to break down some of the less known ingredients and explain what they are, where they come from and why we use them.

Quinoa

black quinoa

Quinoa (pronounced kinwa or kinuwa), is a herbaceous plant grown as grain crop primarily for its edible seeds. Closely related to beetroot and spinach, quinoa was domesticated 3000 to 4000 years ago for human consumption in South America. Furthermore, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, part of the United Nations, declared 2013 as international year of Quinoa.

We use black quinoa in our Shampoo and Conditioner. Black quinoa is very similar to other varieties of quinoa, but it is slightly earthier and packed full of protein. We use it in our hair care products as it’s really great at replenishing and providing proteins to the hair, whilst also softening and strengthening the follicle.

Vitamin E

It’s often said that vitamins are great for your wellbeing and body and that’s quite right. The problem is, people are often left confused and uneducated regarding vitamins so we wanted to tell you about ours.

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant. It helps prevent free radicals in the skin tissue, something directly connected with ageing. The same vitamin also helps repair damaged tissue, as free radicals are also culprit to preventing the healing process. These are both really great results and that’s why we’ve packed it in our Hydrator and Body Wash, to keep your skin looking its best.

Ginkgo Biloba Extract

ginkgo biloba

This ingredient features in our Shave Cream and it has some really great benefits. Ginkgo Biloba is an extract from the Chinese Ginkgo tree, also called the maidenhair tree. It’s believed to be one of the oldest tree species on earth and today, one of the most used herbal treatments/ingredients.

Ginkgo Extract acts as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. We use it in our Shave Cream to help prevent razor burn, skin irritation and inflammation of the skin. Shaving also removes several layers of skin, so it’s important that the products used carry something to fight against that.

Chronodyn Cell Energiser

Chronodyn is a biological extract from a form of algae called Euglena gracilis. We’ve put this in our Face Scrub and Hydrator as it’s proven to help firm and tone the skin, fighting against signs of fatigue. We’re also one of the very few brands using this ingredient, so it really helps our skin products stand out.

We chose to include this ingredient in both our Face Scrub and Hydrator to provide as much benefit as possible. In a skincare routine of exfoliating, shaving and moisturising, the Chronodyn is provided both pre and post shaving. This helps to ensure the benefits of Chronodyn are passed to the skin, leaving it looking and feeling its best.

There are lots of other great ingredients in our products that we haven’t listed. These include things such as prickly pear extract, shea butter, crambe seed oil, caffeine and many more. They all carry great benefits and they all play a part in providing great results to the hair and skin. As we plan for the future and develop new ideas and products, we will continue to strive to include only the finest ingredients, bringing you products that work as they should. After all, that’s what we stand for.
